Surbana Jurong partners AI Singapore and SMU to enhance predictive lift maintenance system

Singapore, 30 August 2018 – Surbana Jurong, one of the largest Asia-based urban and infrastructure consulting firms, will partner AI Singapore and Singapore Management University (SMU), to further enhance its predictive lift maintenance system. This was announced at AI Singapore’s 100 Experiments Showcase event held today.

Surbana Jurong’s Lift Maintenance System (LMS) currently supports Town Councils in monitoring 25,000 lifts across 10,000 public housing blocks in Singapore. LMS collects data on the lifts’ performance and uses predictive analytics to identify potential issues before they occur and in turn, reduce lifts’ maintenance downtime.

The partnership aims to leverage advancements in Artificial Intelligence to enhance LMS’ predictive analytics capabilities. Surbana Jurong will provide data collected from its lift monitoring devices to the AI apprentices from AI Singapore for their analysis, under mentorship of SMU’s professors. SMU will also work closely with Surbana Jurong to conduct research and development to enhance its current LMS. This ensures that the developed solutions can be implemented quickly for immediate impact.

This partnership leverages Surbana Jurong’s experience of over 30 years in monitoring the lifts in Singapore’s public housing estates and the partners’ experience and capabilities in research and Artificial Intelligence. The project will be over an 18-month period.
