Integrated Landscape Design, Ecological Water Management, Yixing

Yixing is located at the lower reaches of the western Taihu Basin, Jiangsu Province of China. The master plan for Yixing Water Ecological ‘W-ECO3’ was set to guide the planning and development of a sustainable developed city of Yixing, focusing on the ecological restoration of water management integrated with landscape design.

The landscape master plan for the site area of 62.2sq km was an integrated resilience design based on eco sustainability. The “Urban-Rural-Nature” development model creates a resilient space integrating the landscapes and water management to emphasise sustainable and low-impact development.

Surbana Jurong was responsible for the detailed landscape master planning involving the water treatment strategy; resilient riparian design; wetland design; an Active, Beautiful, Clean (ABC) water programme for water management targeting at zero water pollution for a new clean water source, and zero effect on flood mitigation.

With its advance water treatment technology, the Yixing Water Ecological W-ECO3 project will become the lead example on ecological protection zones in China and the sustainable guiding model for replication in other regions in China.
