Energy Access Project
The objective of the Asian Development Bank (ADB) funded Project Preparatory Technical Assistance (PPTA) was to assist the Government of Vanuatu to increase access to electricity services for households and businesses in Vanuatu.
The PPTA will achieve this by preparing an implementation project to extend the existing power distribution networks and develop low cost renewable energy from three new hydropower projects. The three sites identified for the new hydropower projects are located at Brenwe on Malehula Island and Wambu and Sarakata downstream on Espiritu Santo Island.
Renewable energy generated by hydropower has the potential to reduce generating costs and allow for a cost effective expansion of the grid, particularly in remote islands.
We are preparing feasibility studies for generation-capacity expansion at the three sites identified for new hydropower installations.
Our scope of work includes:
- Confirmation that identified investments are the most cost effective for capacity expansion
- Preparation of feasibility studies for the three proposed sites (Brenwe, Wambu and Sarakata)
- Identification and recommendations of options for the proposed new facilities’ operation and maintenance
- Outline the requirements for dispatch of power generated at these sites; assess the capacity of the Government’s Executing Agency (EA) and Implementing Agency (IA) for compliance with the ADB’s procedures for procurement, disbursement, and safeguard requirements.
