Asset management business sees further growth in Chile
SMEC, a member of the Surbana Jurong Group, has won three new asset management business contracts in the South America market, continuing to support major copper producers with their mining operations in Chile.
The world’s largest copper producer awarded two contracts to SMEC recently. The initial contract is a five-year asset maintenance framework contract where SMEC will support one of the client’s mine sites in the north of Chile. The scope of work comprises a series of services ranging from maintenance strategies, maintenance plans development, maintainability studies and maintenance process improvements for one of the large concentrator plants.
In the second contract, SMEC will review and optimise the maintenance plans for the copper stripping machines at the client’s largest producing mine site over a four-month period. SMEC is currently assisting at seven of the client’s nine Chilean operations.
In another win, SMEC has secured a three-month contract to support a leading copper producer at its open cut mine in northern Chile. The scope of work includes long, medium and short-term planning activities for a concentrator plant. The key deliverables include planning and related activities, such as inventory requirements, analysis and contractor support. SMEC is delighted to continue its relationship with this client since its successful completion of a maintenance strategy optimisation programme.
