Singapore, 3 October 2019 – The Real Estate Developers’ Association of Singapore (REDAS) is leading renewed efforts to further strengthen knowledge and capabilities in digitalisation and smart sustainability solutions among real estate developers in Singapore.  This initiative is supported by global urban and infrastructure consulting firm Surbana Jurong, through a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) signed today at the REDAS Integrated Digital Delivery (IDD) Symposium.

With Singapore’s aim to transform its construction industry through achieving higher productivity and better quality developments, coupled with the growing focus on tackling climate change, it is increasingly pertinent for Singapore’s real estate developers to be equipped with the relevant knowledge and tools to stay ahead.  In addition, as more developers move to expand overseas, they will need to continually harness their competitive edge through technology and innovation.  REDAS is therefore taking the initiative to lead renewed efforts to support its members’ advancement in technological knowhow as well as in sustainability solutions.  Surbana Jurong will contribute its global experience providing consultancy services across a comprehensive range of disciplines and sectors, as well as its knowledge and expertise in the latest digital technologies and global best practices in green and smart solutions for the built environment.

Under the MOU, Surbana Jurong will support REDAS in promoting further education among REDAS member firms through the organisation of training and sharing sessions in best practices in Integrated Digital Delivery (IDD) and use of digital tools such as drones, virtual reality/augmented reality and other mobility devices. IDD refers to the use of digital technologies to integrate information and processes among the various stakeholders of the project, from designers, builders to facilities managers. This improves collaboration and increases efficiency while maintaining quality and safety.

REDAS and Surbana Jurong will also work together, to advance the concept of digital facilities management among property developers, to inculcate the best practice of involving facilities management professionals in IDD and at the start of every development.

On supporting the fight against climate change, the two parties will collaborate to promote sharing and adoption of best practices in green, smart, sustainability and creative urban solutions.

As a global consultancy operating in 40 countries worldwide, Surbana Jurong will work to provide collaborative platforms to support REDAS member firms in raising their competitiveness in overseas markets.

Mr Chia Ngiang Hong, President, REDAS, said, “As the industry body, REDAS is committed to supporting the further growth and development of our member companies.  We aim to play a role in helping companies in the built environment value chain to upgrade and transform, in alignment with the Singapore Construction Industry Transformation Map.  Through this MOU with Surbana Jurong, we also hope to deepen our mission in propagating IDD related capabilities and best practices among our member firms, as part of our overall efforts to assist them to acquire new capabilities and knowledge to raise their competitive edge not only in Singapore, but also in overseas markets.”

Mr Wong Heang Fine, Group Chief Executive Officer, Surbana Jurong said, “We are pleased to have this opportunity to collaborate with REDAS in its mission to support Singapore’s real estate industry. As a consultancy firm, it is in our interest to contribute towards knowledge sharing in digitalisation, so that the industry as a whole can grow and move up the value chain.  Surbana Jurong has also identified sustainability as an area of focus, and has joined the World Green Building Council on its Corporate Advisory Board.  We aim to play a role in promoting green building practices in Singapore, as well as in all the markets which we serve globally.”
